Collections Begun or Completed in 2021 That I am enjoying in 2022! BEEHIVE BOOKS Illuminated Editions!!!

Beehive Books is probably my most cherished new publisher discovery of 2021. I really caught onto them near the end of 2021, thanks to a Youtube Channel called Beautiful Books. And these oversized, slipcased editions of classic works of literature adorned by acclaimed artists (many well known in the comic and graphic novel sphere) from Paul Pope to Dave Mckean to Bill Sienkiewicz, quickly became must own additions to my already over taxed library.

But man what a great problem to have.

These books are not cheap by any stretch of the imagination, but held in hand they are worth every penny.

Not all of the books are for everyone. Some of the stories appeal to me more than others, as do some of the artists.

For my money the following are the must own Beehive Books purchases I made in 2021, and ones I recommend adding to your collection in 2022 if you haven’t already. Click Images for additional details or to order.

THE WILLOWS & OTHER NIGHTMARES, illustrated by Paul Pope

CRIME AND PUNISHMENT, illustrated by Dave McKean

And my absolute favorite of the line, so far…

THE ISLAND OF DOCTOR MOREAU, illustrated by Bill Sienkiewicz

One of HG Wells many defining works, the true father of cosmic horror, but arguably his most horrific, presented to us by Beehive books in a stunningly designed slipcased edition,  illustrated by one of my favorite artists, Bill Sienkiewicz… this is a must own book, for any true bibliophile.

Now upcoming ones that have been announched that I am excited for are:

THE KWAIDAN COLLECTION, illustrated by Kent Williams

“Part of our ongoing line of Illuminated Editions, in which today’s greatest graphic artists bring new life to literary classics with original illustration and design.

The great painter and multimedia artist Kent Williams is depicting the supernatural Japanese stories of Lafcadio Hearn, originally published in his books Kwaidan and Shadowings. These books are full of ghost stories, nightmares and strange tales — of possessed forests, of monks tormented by demons and ghosts, of corpse brides, man-eating goblins, and undead samurai. They come to life as never before under Williams’ brush.

Featuring an introduction by filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, a foreword by writer Kyoko Yoshida, and a biographical afterword by Hearn’s great-grandson and director of the Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum, Bon Koizumi. 9×12″, page count TBD.”—Beehive books

A VOYAGE TO ARCTURUS, illustrated by Jim Woodring

“Part of our ongoing line of Illuminated Editions, in which today’s greatest graphic artists bring new life to literary classics with original illustration and design.

Visionary cartoonist Jim Woodring has chosen to illustrate an unclassifiable 1920 novel by the legendary British writer David Lindsay. A Voyage to Arcturus is a baffling amalgam of mysticism, science fiction, sexual politics, and outrageous fantasy, and stands as one of the greatest works of sustained, untrammeled imagination ever achieved. Woodring’s drawings capture the writhing currents of interacting forces that lie beneath the wonderfully arcane prose.

Featuring an introduction by the renowned comics writer Alan Moore. 9×12″, page count TBD.” –Beehive Books
