January 2017 – February 2017 Streaming Watchlist Guide – Netflix

NETFLIX

January saw the streaming giant lose a huge amount of content including ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS, BLADE II, COLUMBO, KOLCHAK THE NIGHT STALKER, THE ROCKFORD FILES, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, MONSTERS DARK CONTINENT, ATTACK ON TITAN, BLACKTHORN (one of the best westerns in the last decade)and most of their Food and HGTV programming. A total of 300 titles ( and people wonder why I hold onto my DVDs and BluRays  🙂 ).

February is a less bloody month, but still has many notable departures. Among them AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH, CLERKS, quite a few Shaw Brothers classics, and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE III.

But in return we do get the following notables:

ANTIBIRTH (2016)

The 4th season of one of the best shows RIPPER STREET

The final season of BATES MOTEL

Netflix original series FRONTIER and A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS

All of the Christopher Reeves SUPERMAN movies

THE SHINING

UNDER THE SHADOW (Iranian Horror Film , strongly recommended)

IT FOLLOWS (One of the best horror movies of the last few years)

HIERONYMOUS BOSCH : TOUCHED BY THE DEVIL

KILL COMMAND

Some others that are highly recommended and you might have missed are:

Director Roy Ward Baker gets a compelling and even frightening performance out of 50s Bombshell Marilyn Monroe in the 1952 thriller DON’T BOTHER TO KNOCK.

THE BEST OFFER – by Director Giuseppe Tomatore, is a jaw dropper of a film, beautifully and meticulously crafted. Go into the film blind not knowing anything about it and it will reward you by becoming one of your favorites. It’s an odd little drama that compels.

THE SECRET OF EVIL -This found footage horror film appeared on Netflix with no fanfare but is easily better than more well known horror films. Recommended.

Feel free to leave comments about what are some things you’re looking forward to watching or recommend watching on Netflix.
