RECENT AWESOME and DISSAPOINTING TV DVD BOXSETS/SEASONS!

Favorite recent TV seasons to pick up on DVD:

HELL ON WHEELS SEASON 1- Great season. And particularly episode #9 sports one of the most powerful, lyric and memorable openings of a show and moments of a show, that I’ve seen in a while. Highly Recommended!Hell On Wheels – The Complete First Season [Blu-ray]

BREAKING BAD SEASONS 1-4 – Brilliant
SPARTACUS SEASON 1 – More Brilliance
ROME SEASON 1- Doesn’t end strong, but has great moments

FIGHT QUEST in a word…. AWESOME!Fight Quest

SPOOKS Seasons 1 thru 6 or 7- not the edited US nonsense that is MI-5, but the original unedited/uncensored UK version SPOOKS, for much of its run is television at its best and most daring and shocking.
INVASION- stick with it past the early episodes, this builds to a great done in one season of television. I think it is just as well it didn’t get another season, I don’t think they could have improved on where they left it. Recommended.

Disappointing recent Television DVD Purchases:

HAWAII FIVE-0 (2010) Season 1- pretty and vibrant colors, some nifty action, but over-all cliche filled and predictable, and the cast is relatively uninteresting. 3 out of 5. No interest in the characters or seeing future seasons. One episode of SPOOKS has more heart and daring and smarts than the entire season of this show.Hawaii Five-0: The First Season

AMERICAN HORROR STORY Season 1- Quickly wears out its welcome, becoming a soap opera mix of Dark Shadows and Adams Family with some Dawson’s Creek and T&A tossed in. Hugely disappointing.

DAMAGES Season 1- This Glen Close helmed legal soap-opera suffers from an annoying protagonist, and generally just an overabundance of stupid.

MASTERS OF SCIENCE FICTION- Just plain awful.

SHERLOCK Season 2- Season 1 I liked, if not loved. Season 2 I disliked more than I liked. Just does not come across as well written. Well acted yes, well written… no.

Well that’s it for now. Come back later for more best and worst lists! 🙂
