Recommended movies to rent or buy this weekend:

THE ORDEAL OF DR. MUDD– Dennis Weaver has never been better than in this moving tale of what happens when tragedy and political corruption and the quest for power… intersect.

This film rises above its television origins to be a riveting historical polemic on the abuse of power, Guantanamo Bays of over a hundred years ago, and perseverance in the face of such institutionalized inhumanity. Highly Recommended.

if you’re interest tends to more of an action bent then definitely check out the following:

UNIVERSAL SOLDIER:DAY OF RECKONING– I’ve never been a fan of this series, but the trailer for the fourth entry was one of the standout trailers of 2012. I’m happy to say the movie lives up to it. The direction, and premise is just so… right (For people who liked the cartoony 80s nature of the first couple films, this darker and mature, and stylishly directed entry, may be something too deep and too thoughtful for them to appreciate. But for those of you who come to this blog, I think it’s a movie right up your alley).

From first frame to last I was just hugely impressed with where this film went and how it went there. And Scott Adkins continues to be a mainstay of all that is great and awesome about action/martial arts films, and continues that streak here, delivering awe-inspiring fight scenes. If you loved the trailer, you will love the movie. Highly Recommended!
