TARZAN AT THE EARTH’S CORE takes place in Pellucidar, a land inside the earth populated by primitive, Stone Age tribes and dinosaurs. The Mahars are a race of intelligent dinosaurs who rule Pellucidar so it’s my guess that it’s a Mahar Tarzan is fighting.
It’s been a good many years since I read the book but it’s worth noting that it’s a very early example of what comic book fans now take for granted: The Crossover. Back when the book was written during the 1930’s it was quite the innovative novelty for a writer to do such a thing.
