AMERICAN VAMPIRE- I’ve heard much praise for this Graphic Series by writer Scott Snyder and artist Rafael Albuquerque, but the first book fails to impress. It just kinda meanders though its half dozen issues/chapters, and I don’t find the writing or story particularly engaging or compelling. Though I find this with a lot of titles from publisher VERTIGO, they all start out, at least for my taste, very underwhelming.
I had the same disconnect with the first book of FABLES as well as the first book of SCALPED. I hear they get better, but there are too many great books out there for me to make time for titles that crawl rather than launch out of the starting gate. My reading pile is such that I rarely have time to revisit properties that disappointed or underwhelmed me the first time. AMERICAN VAMPIRE falls into that list.
THE DOORS AN AMERICAN PRAYER- this album of largely Morrison’s poetry/spoken word has its fans. While a fan of spoken word, this album just doesn’t do it for me. I find it often reaching for import that I don’t really feel it believes in or is there. And I’m just not really impressed by either Morrison’s poetry (an ode to his Co*k?) or his delivery. Worth a listen to say you heard it, but the album gets old and annoying quick.
